Uttarakhand: HC
For the first time ever river Ganga has been declared to be a living entity a month before by Uttarakhand HC and for the first time a legal notice has been issued against Ganga, as reported, while responding to the PIL filed by gram pradhan, a two judged bench led by V.K Bisht and Alok Singh, sent notice to the village including river Ganga.
According to reports, Swarup Singh Pundir PIL petitioner and Khadak Maf Village head, who filed complaint challenging Uttarakhand government’s proposal to create a garbage dump in Rishikesh, as Ganga flows to the two sides of the land earmarked as dumping zone.
Pundir, said this would pollute the river even more and during rainy season it would only get worse. He also told building a dump near the river would offend the proposal made by the government Namami Gange Project, which deals with cleaning of the river.
In response Uttarakhand HC sent notices to State Govt., state pollution Control Board, Rishikesh Nagar Palika, river Ganga and Central Pollution Control Board to reply on the matter till May 8th.
